Holiday Details
| The Philippines Safe Diving | All our selected dive resorts and centres represent the Philippines premier dive destinations and operators and they fully adhere to safe diving practises. All are members of PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors).
PADI is the largest diver training organisation in the world and all of its professional members work within rigidly defined safety standards. These standards are designed to ensure your safety and well being on all dives.
Every diving professional working within the resorts will have first aid training and all boats and equipment will be regularly inspected and tested.
Always listen carefully to your dive leaders and Instructors during pre-dive briefings and always rely on them for advice on current conditions.
You also have a self obligation to dive safely. You must be of reasonable health to dive and if you feel that there are any pre-existing conditions that may cause concern (asthma, diabetes, heart or lung problems, sinus or ear problems, major surgery etc) then please consult with your doctor prior to departure.
Before taking any PADI course you will be asked to fill in a medical questionnaire – please answer this truthfully and honestly. The questionnaire is for your own safety.
Be aware of your own limits, experience and comfort zone and never dive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. |
| Why dive in The Philippines? | For beginners, the Philippines provides the highest levels of Instructor care with teaching available in all the major global languages. Just imagine doing your first dives on pristine coral reefs and seeing turtles, rays and a whole host of beautiful marine life. The majority of all the resorts we recommend even have swimming pools so much of your initial training will take place in a comfortable and easy environment.
We would always recommend continuing education therefore most of our featured resorts are 5 Star Centres allowing you to continue training up to Instructor level and beyond. For those already Nitrox certified you will find it available virtually everywhere. If you are not certified then take the course whilst you are here!
We have muck and macro diving here which offers wonderful photographic opportunities, the house reefs around Negros and Panglao are perfect for this.
Apo Island, Apo Reef and Tubbataha Reefs are synonymous with pelagics and here you can see Tuna, Sharks and schools of Jacks and Barracuda.
There are steep walls at Pescador Island, Balicasag Island and Cabilao full of sea life and excitement. At Malapascua you will find one of the few dive sites in the world where you have a good chance to see Thresher Sharks.
Siquijor and Boracay have gentle slopes and very pretty reefs. Boracay also has the famed Yapak wall where big Pelagics will glide past you at 30m deep.
Coron is justifiably famous for its World War 2 wrecks, over 10 Japanese boats lie in waters shallow enough for recreational divers to explore them – all set in a backdrop of astonishingly beautiful scenery.
On the north side of Busuanga Island, at Dimakya island, not only can you reach Apo Reef but you can also take the opportunity to dive with dugongs.
Puerto Galera has dozens of dive sites within a very short distance of the resorts. Perhaps the best known being Canyons where strong currents will give you an exhilarating ride and Verde Island home to great numbers of fish.
Anilao which is just a short dive from Manila is home to great reefs and makes for the perfect weekend or short dive break.
Of course there’s more still…. Most of the resorts offer longer day or overnight trips to little known atolls or islands which are teeming with life and the diving is full of adventure.
There’s night diving, technical diving, rebreather diving, diving in lakes and so much more that you just have to keep coming back time after time.
And all this set in a tropical bliss with warm seas, sandy beaches, green palm trees, fantastic food and drink and friendly people. Your holiday here can be as lively or as quiet as you want it to be, you don’t ever have to travel far to find a deserted cove, beach or tranquil space and yet the impromptu party is always just around the corner!
Lastly, worldwide location means that we are just a short jump to Truk, Palau and Borneo which opens the door to more famous diving locations and the opportunity to combine diving in two countries |
| Diving in Micronesia | The term Micronesia is a collective name given to thousands of tropical islands spread through the western reaches of the Pacific. There are eight island groups, states or territories that comprise the Micronesia and each has unique appeal to visitors. These tropical islands are rich in flora and fauna, culture and history and of course is the home of world class diving.
We feature the islands of Palau, Chuuk and Yap. Here you can find peace and adventure in equal quantities. They are areas of outstanding beauty with lush green islands surrounded by clear calm lagoons and coral reefs running into the deep blue seas. Each of the resorts and dive centres we feature is a multi-award winning business and you are guaranteed comfort and great service.
The underwater world is truly spectacular and is on the must visit list of most divers. Palau is famous for it’s steep walls, great visibility, pristine reefs and huge amounts of marine life. At Chuuk (Truk) virtually a whole Japanese fleet lies within the shallow lagoon making this perhaps the best place in the world for easy access wreck diving. The outer reefs remain largely unexplored and provide many exciting encounters. Yap is best known for the opportunity to see Manta Rays all year round but there is also a dazzling array of species on the water from small macro-life to large pelagics including other rays, sharks, tuna, marlin etc.
The warm waters really do make this the ultimate paradise for divers and the relatively low tourist numbers only add to the appeal. However, it’s not all about diving and the islands are a fascinating destination for eco-tourism, naturalists and history buffs. All of our resorts provide a range of professionally guided tours including jungle trekking, kayaking, World War 2 history, island hopping in remote locations and low impact local culture interaction.
Traditionally these islands have been costly and complicated to access, particularly for European and Asian visitors. This has now changed as the opening of new routes and regular services from The Philippines means that Micronesian islands are now just a relatively short flight from Manila or Cebu. The introduction of low fares now makes The Philippines the hub for Micronesia and means that travel to Palau, Chuuk and Yap is easier than ever before. |
