As relaxing as Grenada itself, Calabash is hidden away amidst palm-studded lawns on Prickley Bay. Presided over by English owner, Leo Garbutt, and his General Manager, Clive Barnes, it underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment last year and a new contemporary style now complements an impeccable attention to detail. Such is their focus upon fine dining that celebrity chef, Gary Rhodes, operates his first overseas hotel restaurant here.

I've just returned from this gem of a hotel and would like to recommend it to all Blue Lizard Travellers! I am a self-confessed foodie and there is no better place to eat on the island (I ate in a lot of places to test this theory). The resort itself reminds me of a golf course in that it is very green with lots of colourful plants providing privacy throughout the resort. The beach bar staff make the perfect rum punch and are on hand with cold water throughout the day. The bay is beautiful with boats moored up and a jetty off the beach. For snorkelling try and get on a catamaran trip as you will see more.

Shade is found under the sea-grape bushes and palms which fringe the white sands. Your accommodation is never too far away and there is a variety of rooms to suit most people. There are hardly any hawkers and I felt very safe leaving the children to play on the beach or in the sea without me watching over them all the time.

The best time is 6pm when the friendly staff visit your room with canapes, or is it 11am when they serve you fruit smoothie on the beach, or is it 7.30pm when I can anticipate my evening meal.......

It is a great place to return to after exploring the island through the day and I particularly enjoyed my breakfast overlooking the beach on my terrace each morning.
