Taking traditional Bhutanese styles and colours of black. ochre and gold the Taj Group have created a jewel in Thimpu. It has been newly built to exacting standards of Taj excellence and large spaces create a feeling of opulence. The incredibly welcoming staff and the intimate spaces of the bar and restaurant have an effect which is far more personal than you would necessarily expect.

The staff are currently partially Bhutanese whilst Taj skills are taught by the experienced Indian staff. The attention to your comfort is amazing as the staff aim to please and provide a warm welcome. It seems that no request is too much and the local knowledge is very valuable to the traveller. I was really impressed with the staff at Taj Tashi.

This is a good base from which to explore the capital. Don't think big though, it is Bhutan - there are some shops, a market, national museums, amazing government buildings and the Royal Family and their residence.
