Bangkok Hotel, Thailand: The Metropolitan
Luxury

Metropolitan Bangkok, Luxury Hotels Bangkok, Luxury Holidays Thailand, Met bangkok, Metropolitan

Just got back (Jan 2008 + again 2010!)) from here, which I absolutely loved. It manages to be hip and stylish without forgetting that you are the customer and you are important. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgable and co-incidently beautiful. Always a bonus at breakast to have pretty people around. The pool adjacent to the restaurant is a perfect place to spend a sleepy couple of hours.

I rate the food very highly and the wine list was impressive. The location of the Met is perfect for sightseeing, shopping and transferring back to the airport (it is about 1/2 hour away). I can't recommend it more highly, laid-back but chic - quite an achievement.

Holiday Details

Accommodation at The Met Bangkok

The hotel's 171 rooms, including four penthouse suites and a two-bedroom presidential fiefdom, share a cosseting, contemporary style.
The look is fresh without being ferociously avant garde, acknowledging influences from both the east and west. There is plenty of space in the rooms and really comfy beds. For a splurge you have to stay in one of the split room suites - reminded me of Babington Manor in Somerset.

I stayed in a City Room which is their lead-in room (read cheapest) and it was great - more than adequate for the time I spent sleeping in it! Bangkok is just not somewhere I spend time in my room.

Dining at The Met Bangkok

Award-winning Australian chef Daniel Moran places unusual importance on sourcing fresh, healthful, local ingredients (an emphasis acquired from Moran's early mentor, the formidable Australian chef, Neil Perry). In this spirit, Moran combines eastern and western traditions to create tantalising dishes of striking innovative value - which fortunately taste delicious as well!

Cy’an is the hotel's headline 110-seat restaurant open for breakfast. lunch and dinner, with tables on the open-air veranda flanking the pool. Glow is a 48-seat eatery serving fresh food only, in the form of snacks, light meals and powerfully energising juices, rich in living enzymes, vitamins and minerals. The COMO Shambhala menu is specifically designed for balance and rejuvenation and is situated right outside the spa.

The Met Bar (kind of underneath the hotel) serves modern Asian cuisine in club-like environs.

There are also masses of places to eat around the area - check with the concierge.
