Antigua & Barbuda
Antigua has a thing about all its' beaches, and it really is an island which glories in the sheer scale of beautiful beaches but it also has a genuine and interesting colonial history. There are also the various sailing regatta's and a cultural respect for the tourist, whom they rely on as their main industry. What this means is that whilst no beach is private as such, there are so many to go around that you find yourself pretty much on your own beach regularly and all the locals just want to be sure you are having a good time.
Great accommodation is scattered all over the island, there is no better or worse place to be and anyway, the island is small; you can get to wherever very easily within 40 minutes.
Top tips for eating out change with the seasons but try Le Bistro or The Pavilion or for real island life try The Beach in the south of the island. Pelican Bar is also popular.
Antigua’s sister island of Barbuda is super flat-even more so than Anguilla. It is reached by ferry or short hop LIAT flight - take the flight its quicker and you can go there and back in a day if needs be. The birdlife is the main draw and the simple pleasures of island life.
